Maui spans 729 square miles. It's approximately twenty miles wide and forty-eight miles long. It's small--very small.
It's the second largest island in the Hawaiian Island chain. Maui County includes the islands of Kaho'olawe, Lana'i, Maui and Moloka'i.
It has a rich and diverse culture with a population of over 110,000 people. And although this number is large, some how the island doesn't seem crowded.
The island is laid back, safe and friendly.
Maui has a community college that is part of the University of Hawai'i. It's a really great place to meet new friends, enrich your cultural perspective or work on a college degree.
Right next to the college is the Maui Arts & Cultural Center. It has a gallery, cultural program, concerts and exhibits.
The concerts there are phenomenal. Make sure to check it out when you get there--you'd be missing out if you didn't. It always has something going on.
The beaches on Maui are fantastic, and so is the surfing. People from all over the world go there to catch waves. Only a surfer knows the feeling--give it a try.
Windsurfing and Kiteboarding are also big there.
The trade winds blow with the consistency of soft, silky butter. This provides strong smooth winds for sailors, windsurfers and kiteboarders.
We know you don't want to go to Maui just for the fine shopping and dining, or to watch the nude people on the beach.
Maui is all about island goodness, most of which surrounds the water--surfing, sailing, kiting, scuba diving, snorkeling, swimming, fishing, boating, and sun-worshiping.
There is so much fun to be had on the island, it's hard to know where to begin.
You're sure to find your favorite beach in no time.
